The family of the late Mr. Kiki Joseph Benson Nwoko has petitioned the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, seeking a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death aboard a barge in the riverine community of Okrika.
In the petition, signed by their lawyer, Arochukwu Paul Ogbonna — who also serves as the National Coordinator of the Civil Rights Council — the deceased’s brother, Mr. Benjamin Nwoko, and sister, Miss Chinwe Nwaogu, alleged foul play and called for justice. A copy of the petition, received by the Rivers State Police Command, was made available to reporters.
According to the family, Mr. Nwoko, who had worked as a second deck foreman for the company for about eight months, died on Sunday, August 10, 2025, while on duty. They expressed outrage over what they described as his “quick and sudden” burial without their knowledge and without a formal police report.
The petition urged the police to identify those responsible for what they termed a “heinous crime” and ensure they face the full weight of the law.
