Families and associates of the four prominent Ogoni leaders murdered on May 21, 1994, have renewed calls for the recovery of their remains, 31 years after the tragic incident.
During a peaceful procession held on Wednesday from Mogho Junction to Giokoo community—where the killings took place—the Gokana Unity Forum urged the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) to collaborate with traditional rulers in Ogoniland to locate and retrieve the remains of the deceased for a proper burial.
Dr. Chris Barigbon, speaking on behalf of the forum, called for the formation of a fact-finding committee dedicated to uncovering the fate of the Ogoni Four.
Kenneth Kobani, former Secretary to the Rivers State Government and son of Edward Kobani, one of the victims, described the pain of the loss as still deeply felt. “Thirty-one years later, the memories remain vivid and emotional,” he said.
The procession marked a solemn remembrance of the 1994 killings, which remain a painful chapter in Ogoni history.
