Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has called on the Federal Government to immediately dismiss the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, over alleged constitutional violations and disregard for presidential directives.
In a statement issued Thursday and reported by Vanguard, Falana cited a Federal Government Gazette outlining that the operations of the Sole Administrator must be guided by regulations issued by President Bola Tinubu. “The Sole Administrator shall operate on the basis of such Regulations that may, from time to time, be issued by me,” the Gazette quotes President Tinubu.
Falana, however, emphasized that no such regulations have been issued by the President, yet Ibas has gone ahead to make appointments and dismiss officials appointed by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Condemning the actions as unlawful, Falana stated: “By treating the orders of President Bola Tinubu with contempt, the Sole Administrator has compounded the illegality of his appointment.” He urged the Federal Government to remove Ibas from office without delay.
