The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, has warned electricity consumers against paying bills to individuals.
Acting Manager of the Company, Chioma Aninwe gave the warning in a statement in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
This was after a suspect who claimed to be a staff of the company was arrested for allegedly defrauding one Emmanuel Nte of the sum of N220,000.
The money was for the suspect to help him activate his account with PHED.
Aninwe, explained that the suspect was arrested at Aba Road, Port Harcourt, few days after he had collected the money and disappeared.
She said he is currently in Police custody for further investigation and prosecution.
She charged consumers to make their payment at PHED offices, banks and accredited agents and not to individuals.
