The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has directed the immediate discontinuation of all cash-based transactions across its operations, fixing February 29, 2026, as the final deadline for full compliance.
The directive was conveyed in an internal memorandum dated February 3, 2026, and signed by the agency’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku. The circular, titled Cessation of CashCollections/Transactions, was distributed to all directorates within the authority.
According to the memo, the decision follows approval by the Federal Executive Council mandating government institutions to transition fully to a cashless system. Directors were instructed to urgently implement approved electronic and digital payment channels for all official transactions.
The memo stressed that all forms of cash collection related to FAAN’s services and business activities must cease by the stated deadline, warning that violations would attract strict sanctions.
The move forms part of the Federal Government’s wider policy to minimize the use of physical cash and accelerate the adoption of digital payment systems across public sector institutions in Nigeria.
