An explosion in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State, has claimed the lives of five people. The victims, four women and one man, were burnt beyond recognition in the incident, which occurred at a residential building used for the illegal storage of petroleum products.
According to the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria), the explosion took place around 11 a.m. after a lighted stove was brought close to illegally refined condensate kerosene stored at the site, sparking a deadly fire.
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is currently ongoing.
