Former federal lawmaker, Hon. Bernard Mikko, has faulted the appointment of a non-indigene as Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, describing the decision as “abnormal” and politically insensitive.
In an interview with ARISE News on Thursday, Mikko criticised the selection of Michael Odey, who hails from Cross River State, to head the commission, stating that although the appointment may not violate any legal provision, it undermines the principles of federalism and threatens the political rights of the people of Rivers State.
He warned that such actions could further inflame the already tense political atmosphere in the state and urged stakeholders to pursue dialogue and reconciliation to resolve the ongoing political crisis.
