Former spokesman of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Rivers State, Solomon Lenu, has criticised the State’s Sole Administrator, retired Vice-Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, for initiating a re-verification exercise for civil servants.
In an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Lenu accused Ete-Ibas of deviating from the peace restoration mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu. He alleged that rather than addressing security challenges and improving the state’s environment, the administrator is now pursuing personal interests.
Meanwhile, pensioners under the banner of Rivers State Civil Pensioners (2012 to date) have threatened to stage a protest if their demands are not met. The group’s coordinator, Isaac Urang, said they are demanding the payment of death benefits and implementation of a new salary structure. He warned that if their July payments fail to reflect these changes, members would take to the streets in protest.
