- Hon. Dr. Anyanwu warns over planned protest in Etche
- Says efforts being made by Governor Wike to put the dilapidated sections of the Etche-Okpala Federal road in order
The Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Obinna Anyanwu JP, has warned against planned protest by some indigenes of Etche over the failed portions of the Etche-Okpala Federal road.
Hon. Dr. Anyanwu who gave the warning on Thursday while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt, noted that the sole aim of the planned “gang-up” protest by some members of PDP and APC is to discredit Governor Nyesom Wike who is up and doing in the service of the State, including Etche Local Government Area.
He said: “My great people of Etche, you are aware that at the inception of Governor Nyesom Wike’s administration, there was no single road to get to Etche Local Government Area. The Governor out of sheer love for our people, opened up the corridors from Igwuruta-Chokocho, Chokocho-Igbo-Rumuokwurusi, followed by Chokocho-Ozuzu, Ulakwo-Nihi and now, the ongoing Odufor-Akpoku-Umuoye road.
“It is therefore ridiculous that there are those ganging up now to protest against the spoilt areas from Chokocho bridge to Okehi. Our people should appreciate the good things the Governor has done working in concert with leadership of Etche PDP without any delegation being sent”.
He said the road in question belongs to the Federal Government and for which Governor Wike has been making efforts to intervene after due consultation with the Federal Ministry of Works, since an authorization is required to execute.
“As the Chairman of the Local Government Area, I am aware of these difficulties, for which my administration has put in several efforts. I am also aware of the handicap of Governor Nyesom Wike, because the road in question belongs to the Federal Government and for which the Governor has been making effort to do after due consultation with the Federal Ministry of Works since an authorization is required to execute”.
“Rather than our people appeal to Governor Nyesom Wike, they are busy planning to sabotage his effort by ganging up to carry out protest that I consider unnecessary, when efforts are being made to put the failed portion of the road in order”.
The Chairman warned the organizers, sponsors, allies, supporters, associates and sympathizers of the planned “gang-up” protest to, in their own interest, stay clear of any such planned demonstration, acts of incitement, as the full wrath of the law will be brought to bear on any individual or group engaged or found participating in the above planned act.”
Hon. Dr. Anyanwu also advised parents to caution their children and wards against being used to cause breach of peace in Etche, as anybody caught in violation will face arrest and prosecution.
“I have observed that some dissidents in the PDP and APC in Etche are using that as a platform to discredit our able and performing governor, who is up and doing in the service of the State, including Etche Local Government Area”.
“I want to warn as the Chairman of the Council that anybody or group of people who dare to assemble at the failed portion of the road to use as excuse to protest would be dealt with accordingly. My approach to issues like this is by appealing, which is ongoing”.
The Council Chairman noted that he alongside the leadership of PDP in Etche will continue to canvass for the development of Etche.
“I want to assure you that the leadership of PDP in Etche and I will continue to plead with His Excellency to intervene on this failed portion of the Federal road as to enable passage of motorists to and from Port Harcourt,” the Chairman said.
