Etche Local Government Council has announced the acquisition of more than 14,000 electric poles aimed at reconnecting and electrifying communities without existing electricity facilities in the area.
The Executive Chairman of the council, Chief Hon. Chima Boniface Njoku, disclosed this during the delivery of 500KVA/33KVA transformers at Okehi, the council headquarters. He explained that the initiative is designed to ensure that all communities in Etche benefit from rural electrification, while also acknowledging the people’s support for him and the APC in the last local government elections. The program also aims to reduce poverty at the grassroots level.
Chief Njoku added that over 90% of work had been completed along the Omuma/Etche axis, including the clearing of the right-of-way for power lines to prevent disruptions, with some communities already enjoying electricity.
Reiterating the council’s commitment, Chief Njoku emphasized that access to electricity would boost socio-economic activities across Etche. He also noted that the projects are being executed through direct labour to empower local residents.
