The Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Chief Hon. Chima Boniface Njoku, has called on youths in the area to redirect their energies from violence, cultism, and other criminal activities to ventures that promote the growth and development of Etche land.
He appealed to Okehi during the flag-off ceremony for the remodelling of the Etche Local Government Council Secretariat on Thursday.
Decrying the dilapidated state of the existing structure, Hon. Njoku reiterated his administration’s commitment to changing the narrative and delivering impactful projects. He expressed confidence in the contractor handling the renovation work, urging timely and quality completion. He further revealed plans to partner with the operators of the secretariat’s canteen at subsidised rates under strict council supervision.
Addressing rising conflicts over traditional stools, the council chairman said his administration has set up committees to mediate disputes in line with the customs and traditions of the Etche people. He urged those with ongoing court cases to withdraw them within 30 days to ensure peaceful coexistence.
A prayer and praise session led by the widows of Etche added a spiritual tone to the event. Hon. Njoku encouraged them to establish a Widows Intervention Ministry to continually intercede for families, pledging his support for the initiative.
The council boss also assured residents of a strong working relationship with councillors to improve welfare and infrastructure across the LGA. He appealed to eligible voters who have yet to register to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise.
Chairman of the occasion, Chief Ephraim Nwuzi, praised Hon. Njoku for his swift move to restore the dignity of Etche barely a month after assuming office. He expressed optimism that the chairman would deliver quality amenities and urged him to ensure that the resources of the local government are used for the benefit of the people.
