TEXT: DANIEL 10:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: “O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you” (Daniel 10:11 NKJV).
Our life, our heart, our mind, and our dispositions count, for they matter. Heaven takes record of everything we do, and classifies us according to God’s reckoning. Indeed, Jesus our Lord and Saviour is a perfect record keeper of our life; He misses nothing. His recurrent refrain is: “I know your works …” (Rev. 1-3).
Daniel was called “man greatly beloved”. The indication is that he must have lived a fruitful life that pleased God. He placed himself on 21 days fasting to make supplications for his people. In the period, he did not eat any pleasant food, meat or wine, and did not anoint himself at all. He detached himself from the niceties and pleasures of life. Long before this time, he “was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king” (Dan. 1:8).
In all this, Daniel had an attitude: He always preserved purity in his life. He maintained the integrity of heart before God and before men. This is an attitude of the saints we should imitate.
For Mary, the angel said, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women” (Luke 1:28 NKJV). Concerning Job, God said, “… there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil”
(Job 1:8 NKJV). Joseph said to Potiphar’s wife, “… How can I do such an evil thing? It is a sin against God” (Gen. 39:9 NCV).
If we live like the saints of old, our record in heaven would show same; and God would honour us greatly. We should strive to be greatly belovedby God because of our lifestyle. One thing we should do is to stay away from sin.
- Endeavour to live the kind of life that pleases God.
- Lord, grant me the Spirit of grace to live a life of the saints.
