ESOCS Devotional 9 November 2024 – Wait for the Promised Change
MEMORY VERSE: “…all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.” Job 14:14 KJV
TEXT: JOB 14:1-14
“Man who is born of woman
Is of few days and full of trouble.
2 He comes forth like a flower and fades away;
He flees like a shadow and does not continue.
3 And do You open Your eyes on such a one,
And bring me to judgment with Yourself?
4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean?
No one!
5 Since his days are determined,
The number of his months is with You;
You have appointed his limits, so that he cannot pass.
6 Look away from him that he may rest,
Till like a hired man he finishes his day.
7 “For there is hope for a tree,
If it is cut down, that it will sprout again,
And that its tender shoots will not cease.
8 Though its root may grow old in the earth,
And its stump may die in the ground,
9 Yet at the scent of water it will bud
And bring forth branches like a plant.
10 But man dies and is laid away;
Indeed he breathes his last
And where is he?
11 As water disappears from the sea,
And a river becomes parched and dries up,
12 So man lies down and does not rise.
Till the heavens are no more,
They will not awake
Nor be roused from their sleep.
13 “Oh, that You would hide me in the grave,
That You would conceal me until Your wrath is past,
That You would appoint me a set time, and remember me!
14 If a man dies, shall he live again?
All the days of my hard service I will wait,
Till my change comes.

Every promise of God will require a waiting time: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come; it will not tarry” (Habakkuk 2:3).Yes! Even though it seems slow in coming, be rest assured that it will not arrive late; it will not be overdue a single day; it will surely arrive on time. All that is required of you is to wait for it.
It may interest you to know that waiting time is never a waste of time. The period you are waiting for the expected and promised change of story to happen, you are actually not wasting time. This is because to be in a haste is to waste in life. When you haste out of your waiting time, you succeed in wasting your life and destiny.
Hear this, waiting on God for the promised change to take place is a deliberate decision, as revealed in our text. It does not require prayer nor anointing. It is a decision one consciously has to make. The meaning is that you resolve to wait for the change to happen against all odds.
Waiting implies remaining in expectation for the change to come, and being hopeful, despite the challenges and mockery. If you must experience the change, then, you need to wait: “And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise” (Hebrew 6: 15). This is so because God’s promised changes are not only inherited by faith alone but a combination of faith and patience (Hebrew 6:12). Look at this: faith without patience equals depression; whereas patience without faith equals frustration. But when you combine faith with patience, then, you have the manifestation of the miracle you seek.
We pray that as you wait, may the desired change come for you and your family, in the name of Jesus. We pray that God will help you not to run out of patience, in the name of Jesus. We prayerfully demand God to arrest every force delaying your change unnecessarily, in the name of Jesus. Your change is coming! Congratulations!
- Never leave the waiting room despite how long the process takes.
- While you wait, remain Kingdom-minded.
- Meekly wait on God and murmur not.
- Father, thank you for the assurance of my change. Oh Lord, as I wait on you, command my change to come, in Jesus Name. Amen.
