TEXT: LUKE 11:1-13
MEMORY VERSE: “Now it came to pass as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased that one of His disciples said to Him “Lord teach us how to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” Luke 11:1 NKJV
One of the disciples of Jesus, after listening to Him as he prayed, requested Him to teach them how to pray, so that they could pray aright. He answered His disciples’ request for instruction on prayer by giving them a model we call “The Lord’s Prayer”. It is through prayer that our requests are made known to God.
The ingredients of the prayer are:
- Worship and adoration of God: When we pray, we must first adore and worship God – Luke 11:2
- Confession: We must confess our sins, as we pray to God – Luke 11:4a.
- Petition to God: Making our request known to God.
- Dependence: We must display our total dependence on God as we pray – Luke 11:4b
To succeed in prayer, we need to be persistent in our prayers. We should pray every time, everywhere and with faith. It is thus clear that an honest prayer is the key to success of every Christian. Prayer is also the weapon of warfare for all Christians.
