TEXT: I KINGS 22:1-28
MEMORY VERSE: “And Jehoshaphat said, is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might inquire of him?” I Kings 22: 7 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
God’s intent is not to keep His Will and His insight a mystery to us. He wants us to seek and inquire of Him concerning our life and what we do. Inquiring of the Lord was the secret to success for many believers in times past, and it still is for us today.
The Life of Jehoshaphat is one of the Kings in Judah who walked in the ways of his father, Asa and did that which was right in the sight of the Lord (I Kings 22:42). It was not surprising to see him insisting on inquiring from the prophet of the LORD if they should proceed to go into battle with the Syrians.
King David was known as a man after God’s own heart. He always wanted to know what the Lord wanted, and once he discovered that, he sought to do it with God’s help. When we look deeply into David’s life and writings, we see how David postured himself before God and how we also are invited to live our lives. We were created and fashioned to succeed in all we do, having been made in the likeness and image of God.
When we seek the counsel of God, He gives us inside information on every situation we may encounter or find ourselves in. To inquire of Him is the best way to go if we want to be spiritually successful. It is possible to live a life of victory, satisfaction, and divine favor, and a life of miracle when we inquire of the Lord and follow Him in all we do.
Under the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit has been sent to live in our hearts and speak to us when we call upon the Lord. Every believer can inquire of the Lord directly, because we have all become priests. Through Jesus Christ, we have access to the Father in heaven. And the anointing of the Holy Spirit teaches us all things. We have the mind of Christ (I John 2:20–21; I Peter 2:9; I Corinthians 2: 16).
So, if you already know the Lord Jesus Christ and inquire of Him, let me encourage you to keep doing so. He will answer you. If you aren’t inquiring of Him to know His will for each area of your life, then I want to urge you to do so. You should seek to know his will concerning employment, marriage, child raising, money matters, and virtually every part of your life.
- Are there aspects of your life that you have not inquired of the Lord from? Do you wish to be successful and victorious? Go to the Lord in prayer.
- Lord, what is your will for my life? Help me to accomplish them, that your name will be glorified in me.
