TEXT: Revelations 1: 8-20
MEMORY VERSE: “The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches” Revelation 1:20
In falling away from God, the world is immersed in thick darkness. Not knowing God and not understanding godliness. They hold the truth in unrighteousness, vile in affection, without the knowledge of God, and filled with all unrighteousness. The hearts of men are filled with the darkness of sin. In His plan for the salvation of man, God shines the light to show man the truth and teach him the way of God. This He did in choosing Abraham from whom He established a nation that was to be a light to the Gentiles, showing the world how to live in godliness, and through the result in their life see the benefit and wisdom of godliness.

God through Jesus Christ established the Church as a people of God, cleansed, and washed from the filth and darkness of the world, called to a life of holiness in Christ Jesus. They are in these times to be a light to the world, that men may see goodness of God and glorify God. Christ called the church the light of the world and the salt of the earth. This is what John was shown in his vision at Patmos as the mystery of the seven candles. This vision emphasizes this truth and lays forth the role of the church in today’s world and in the plan of salvation. The church is to be an example to the world and through their life bring people to the Lord. It is a divine duty. The Church must rise up to it.
CHALLENGES
- What in your opinion is today preventing the church from playing its role as the light?
- How does this apply to the individual and what can be done?
PRAYER POINT:
- Our gracious Father, forgive us in all the ways we have not fulfilled your call in our life. Help us to serve you; and may we indeed be instruments in your hands for the salvation of many.
