ESOCS Devotional 8 September
TEXT: Romans 5: 1-11 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1 KJV
Peace means the absence of violence or disturbance, freedom from strife, state of stillness, silence, or serenity. It also means absence of mental anxiety, state of harmony or friendship. A life of sin does not bring peace with God for anybody. A life of sin brings moments of anger, anguish, hopelessness, pains, eternal damnation. But when we are justified by faith, we will be at peace with God. This differs from peaceful feelings of calmness or tranquillity. Peace with God means that we have reconciled with Him. It means there is no more hostility between us, no sin blocking our relationship with Him.
Peace with God is because Jesus paid the price for our sins through His death on the cross. We were helpless because we could do nothing on our own to save ourselves. Christ came to the rescue. He came according to God’s own schedule. Why would we not have peace with God since: “He commendeth His love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom.5:8)? This means that we were not good enough, but because He loved us.

The benefits we derive being at peace with God are as follows:
1. He liberates us – He frees us from the chains, stains, and pains of the past.
2. He elevates us – He embraces us and lifts us up to reign with Him.
3. He educates us – He gives us wise counsel and future direction.
4. He compensates us – He fills areas where we are weak or lack competence.
5. He motivates us – He is our source of vision, hope, and purpose.
6. He regenerates us – He transforms us to live on a higher level by His supernatural resources.
7. He activates us – He commissions us to obey and move forward in His cause.
When God justifies us because of our faith, and we start living a godly life, it guarantees peace with Him. Let us be wise and remain faithful and loyal to Him; and not to sin and Satan.
