ESOCS Devotional 8 March 2026 – Future Glory For jerusalem (The Church)
MEMORY VERSE: “If any nation comes to fight you, it is not because I sent them. Whoever attacks you will go down in defeat.” Isaiah 54:15 NLT
TEXT: ISAIAH 54:11-17
“O you afflicted one,
Tossed with tempest, and not comforted,
Behold, I will lay your stones with colorful gems,
And lay your foundations with sapphires.
12 I will make your pinnacles of rubies,
Your gates of crystal,
And all your walls of precious stones.
13 All your children shall be taught by the Lord,
And great shall be the peace of your children.
14 In righteousness you shall be established;
You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear;
And from terror, for it shall not come near you.
15 Indeed they shall surely assemble, but not because of Me.
Whoever assembles against you shall fall for your sake.
16 “Behold, I have created the blacksmith
Who blows the coals in the fire,
Who brings forth an instrument for his work;
And I have created the spoiler to destroy.
17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord.

In the Old Covenant, God chose the Israel nation as His own special people on earth (Malachi 1:2). He gave them His dos and don’ts, to enable a cordial relationship with Him. But Israel would always contravene these commandments. Moreover, God, from time to time would give up on them, thereby creating room for hostile nations, including Babylon, Assyria, others, to attack and humiliate them.
God is infinitely holy, and totally separated from humans; yet, He relates to His chosen people as Redeemer, Saviour, Father, and Husband. Ever ready to forgive and restore, He gave His only Begotten Son as Messiah and restorer (John 3:16).
In the New Testament, national Israel (Jerusalem or Zion), has been replaced with the Church. In our text today, God has promised that He would no more give up on the Church for the nations to invade (v 15). Jesus paid the price of sin, and the Church has been totally redeemed and made the bride of Christ. Hence, the Lord has promised: “No weapon formed against the Church shall prosper. Every condemning tongue shall be condemned.”
Moreover, the Church was founded on Christ the solid Rock of Ages; so, the gates of hell has no power to prevail against her – come what may! The Church shall reign with Christ unto times age abiding (Matthew 16:18).
As far as the Church of Christ (the New Jerusalem) is concerned, the whirlwind may rage, the floodgates of hell may rise against her, but the Church will certainly continue to march forward in triumph. The Church will trudge on – from victory on to victory, and from glory to glory (Revelation 21:10-11), until the citizens touch their feet on the golden gates, where they shall reign with Christ forever. This is the promise to the New Jerusalem of glory – the Church of Christ on earth.
Reflections
- The foundation of the New Jerusalem was built on Christ the rock. No weapon formed against her shall prosper.
Prayer
- Lord my God, grant me the grace to remain steadfast citizen of this wonderful city of God.
