ESOCS Devotional 7 November 2024 – You’re Not Helpless
MEMORY VERSE: ““No, I am utterly helpless, without any chance of success.” Job 6:13 NLT
TEXT: JOB 6:1-13
Then Job answered and said:
2 “Oh, that my grief were fully weighed,
And my calamity laid with it on the scales!
3 For then it would be heavier than the sand of the sea—
Therefore my words have been rash.
4 For the arrows of the Almighty are within me;
My spirit drinks in their poison;
The terrors of God are arrayed against me.
5 Does the wild donkey bray when it has grass,
Or does the ox low over its fodder?
6 Can flavorless food be eaten without salt?
Or is there any taste in the white of an egg?
7 My soul refuses to touch them;
They are as loathsome food to me.
8 “Oh, that I might have my request,
That God would grant me the thing that I long for!
9 That it would please God to crush me,
That He would loose His hand and cut me off!
10 Then I would still have comfort;
Though in anguish I would exult,
He will not spare;
For I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.
11 “What strength do I have, that I should hope?
And what is my end, that I should prolong my life?
12 Is my strength the strength of stones?
Or is my flesh bronze?
13 Is my help not within me?
And is success driven from me?

Many times, circumstances of life make it look as if we have come to the end of the road. They present us with a state of helplessness and leave us downcast. In such situation, several persons give up on life, get depressed and even take their life. Possibly, they would have searched for help and couldn’t get any, so they conclude that they we were helpless and can never succeed.
But, the good news today as you begin a new week is that there is help for you. Yes! Beloved there are thousand and one chances for you to succeed in this life. Not when you are gone to heaven but on this earth. Look at these:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46.1); “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hill, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121: 1-2); “Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God” (Psalm 146:5); “Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not be dismayed; for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea I will help thee…” (Isaiah 41:10); “Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel, I will help thee, saith the Lord and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel” (Isaiah 41:14); “For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded” (Isaiah 50:7); “O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help” (Hosea 13:9); “Having therefore obtained help of God, I continued unto this day…” (Act 26:22); “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities…” (Romans 8:26); “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need…” (Hebrew 4:16); “So that we may boldly say, the Lord is my Helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Hebrew 13:6).
Beloved, we repeat, you are not helpless, neither is your ease helpless; you have a great help in God. In God’s help is your hope. Yes! Your hope of success is rekindled because you have help in God.
Your responsibility today is to stretch your hand towards God and allow Him to help you. Come boldly to His throne where grace for help is in abundance. God is your Helper, you will succeed again.
- Look away from the help of man and yourself and look up to God.
- Submit to God’s helping hand in all situations.
- Have absolute faith in God for your success and help.
- Lord, thank you for reviving my soul today. I submit to your helping hand and ask that you help me in all areas of my life, in Jesus name.
