TEXT: 1 KINGS 3:3-15
MEMORY VERSE: “Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and bad…” 1 Kings 3:9
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
God equips whoever He anoints for service. After the installation of Solomon as king of Israel, God visited him in a dream and asked to know what he wants for himself as king (vs. 3-5).
We all have got to have a high regard for God’s will in our lives and seek to excel in it. King Solomon asked God for “… an understanding heart …” to be able “to discern between good and bad”. This no doubt is a desire to excel as a king who is to rule over the people of God. This pleased God (vs. 6-10).
When God is pleased with the choice a person makes, the hand of God is moved to bless him in an unexpected manner. Thus, to King Solomon God did not only give him what he asked for but also gave him “…both riches and honour and long life” (vs. 11-14).
This is indeed how to get accomplished in life. We have got to seek to please God first and we shall get all other things that make life on earth comfortable and fruitful. The choice Solomon made in the early stage of his ministry as king of Israel, as we read in Biblical history, made him enjoy life more than any king that lived on earth before and after him (v 12; Mathew 6:30-34). The choice is ours to make.
- Have you identified your God given mission on earth?
- Are you seeking for knowledge and understanding to excel in your mission?
- May I be rightly focused, oh Lord. Lead me on the path of life that you have chosen for me that I may ascend unto the height that you have set for me, in Jesus Name. Amen.
