ESOCS Devotional 6 June 2024 – Jesus is the Christ
MEMORY VERSE: “And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.” Mark 8:29
TEXT: MARK 8:27-33
Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?”
28 So they answered, “John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”
29 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”
30 Then He strictly warned them that they should tell no one about Him.
31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke this word openly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But when He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

Lord Jesus Christ asked the disciples whom y said He was and Peter answered that He is Christ.
Truly, He is the Christ. As the Christ, He was to ultimately save man from the decay and loss of God’s glory brought about by sin. And then, restore as many as believe into the family of God.
However, the religious leaders of His time could not recognise Him but became the greatest opponents of His work. They believed that Christ was meant to be a deliverer. He was also prophesied to be a conquering King on whose shoulders the government will and should rest. This is all true. However, they did not realise He was to follow a process, which included the following: being born in a lowly estate; baptized by John the Baptist in order to reveal Him to the people; the preaching of the gospel of the Kingdom to the poor; give a taste of the power of the Kingdom He is to bring through miracles/signs/wonders, afterwards suffer and die for the sins of mankind in order to deliver man from the wrath of God against sin and sinners. He is to resurrect after three days and ascend to heaven and then come back to take over the earth from Satan and fully establish His Kingdom.
These processes, as prophesied in the scriptures that the Lord Jesus is the Christ, has almost been fulfilled. We are now waiting for the last part of the prophecy, that is, His Second Coming to take over the earth from Satan and his wicked allies.
Beloved, when He comes, all those who do not believe in Him and His death on the Cross as Christ will burn in hell fire with Satan. Christ is the answer to the problem of sin and the wrath of God. And Jesus is the Christ of God for mankind. Believe in Him today and be saved, for He has already suffered for your sin!
