ESOCS Devotional 6 July
TEXT: DANIEL 5:1-15
MEMORY VERSE: “I have heard of you, that the spirit of God is in you and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.” Daniel 5:14 NKJV
King Belshazzar the son of Nebuchadnezzar spoke as quoted above in the memory verse. People, even the king listened to Daniel whenever he spoke to them why? Daniel stood out from the crowd and we should follow his foot step as enumerated below:

- Relationships: Daniel had a reputation for knowing the God of Israel. People listen to us because of who we know.
- Sacrifice: Daniel gave up his right to eat the kings food. People listen to us because of what we have suffered.
- Character: Daniel remained blameless and trustworthy even when he had to rebuke kings. People listen to us because of our integrity.
- Relevance: Daniel lived with the Babylonians and identified with their struggles and lifestyle. People listen to us because we identify with their needs.
- Insight: Daniel could interpret dreams and vision that confused everyone else. People listen to us because of what we know.
- Vulnerability: Daniel’s life was an open book. People listen to us because we are genuinely transparent.
- Experience: Daniel’s credibility came from years of living well. People listen to us because we’ve succeeded in the past.
- Humility: Daniel served and submitted to authorities, unless they broke a higher law. People listen to us when we incarnate meekness.
- Competence: Daniel did many things better than anyone else. People listen to us because of our abilities and expertise.
- Courage: Daniel was no one’s puppet and showed he would die for his convictions. People listen to us because we demonstrate conviction.
CHALLENGES
- Do people listen to you when you speak?
PAYER POINT: Ask God to give you grace so that people will listen to you when you speak.
