TEXT: ISAIAH 42:1-12
MEMORY VERSE:
“I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the gentiles.” Isaiah 42: 6
Although Cyrus was God’s servant that delivered or released Israel from captivity in Babylon, his activity only pointed to what the Messiah, the true servant of God, Jesus Christ would accomplish for God’s people both in Israel and the gentile world. His God-given assignment toward us, which he well accomplished for our eternal and earthly blessings include the following:-
- A covenant to the people: Though the Jews claimed the covenant of Abraham for them only, the covenant, especially the new covenant is for all people, both Jews and gentiles, you and I. The New Testament, which Christ sealed with His own blood covers all of us who believe in the only begotten Son of God. It is a sure agreement instituted by God between us and Him for our benefit.
- He shall revive the dying or perishing soul: Are you bruised by evil forces or are you like a candle light that is going off. By reason of this covenant, Christ Jesus will not only not break or quench you, but His mandate by the Father is to revive and quicken you again, to comfort and tend you, as a shepherd tends his bruised sheep until you are fully revived, up and praising God. Just trust Christ Jesus.
- To set judgment in the earth: He will establish true religion, bring the wicked and oppressors to judgment, and His doctrine shall be well received. Shiloh has come (Gen. 49:10).
- To open the eyes of the blind (7): This mandate is explicitly stated in Isaiah 61:1; and again at the mouth of the Lord as recorded in Luke 4:18. We were once in darkness, alienated from God, but the Prophet captured our present bliss well when he said, “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined (Isa. 9:2). This is the present bliss of the gentile Christians – a great light is come unto us.
- To deliver prisoners out of the prison: By His mandate and the promised upholding of His hands by God, the Messiah is more than able to deliver every believer from the bondage of sin and Satan, from chains and shackles of enemies seen and unseen, visible and invisible. Only believe in Him, and trust Him with your all.
- Jesus Christ our covenant has sealed for us an exceedingly superior covenant. Operate under this agreement by keeping the terms and conditions of it; and whatever you ask from God, He will give it unto you for the sake of Christ Jesus. Just say this prayer:-
- Father, I am glad to be a partaker of the New Testament. Help me, O’ God to walk with you in its terms and conditions, and bless me, I pray through Jesus Christ my Lord.
