TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:7-16
MEMORY VERSE: “And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God.” John 1:36
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
John the Baptist had the mission to introduce Christ Jesus to the Israelites. Thus, in John 1:20-23, 31-34, John denied being neither the Christ nor the prophet but the one who had come to prepare the way for the Christ and to see that He is made manifest to Israel.
In our text, we see John introducing Jesus to his disciple in a manner that shows that he was handing them over to Christ. Andrew followed and abode with Jesus after he heard John say of Jesus, “Behold the lamb of God.”
Andrew, abode with Jesus and thereafter brought his brother, Peter and introduced him to Jesus. Jesus accepted Peter and told him “Thou art Simon the son of Jona; thou shalt be called Cephas” (John 1:40-42).
In the same spirit, Philip brought Nathanael to Jesus after Jesus successfully called Philip into His fold. (John 1:43-45). The gospel message and letters of the apostles are replete with records of men and women who entered into the fold of Christ and took it upon themselves to call others to the Lord.
After his earthly ministry, Jesus gave the great commission to those who will follow Him till the world comes to an end. (Mark 16:15-18). He declared that we are made fishers of men. We are to fish in the lakes, rivers and ocean; that is, all classes of people and in all kinds of places. We have got to go out there and fish men and women of high and low standing for Christ.
There is no doubt that in Christ, God has made it to be the source of total salvation and blessedness (John 1:49-51). Let us therefore, not be lazy about it or allow ourselves to be too occupied with our personal affairs. Let us take the next step to bring people to Christ.
- Are you in the business of introducing people to Christ?
- Lord, please teach and GUIDE me on the way to bring others to you, in Jesus Name. Amen.
