TEXT: JOEL 2: 28 – 32
MEMORY VERSE: “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.” Joel 2: 32 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
Calling on the name of the Lord is basic for salvation and presupposes faith in the Lord. God promises to save those who, in faith, call upon His name: “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved [delivered]” (Joel 2: 32; Romans 10: 13). Everyone who invokes the name of God for mercy and salvation, in the name of Jesus, shall be saved (Acts 2: 21)
To call on the name of the Lord is to approach Him in thanksgiving, worship, and petition; and in so doing, proclaim the name of God.
To call upon the name of the Lord is a sign of knowing Him and a way of connecting to Him. There is a difference between knowing about God and knowing Him personally. Calling on the name of the Lord indicates personal interaction and relationship. When we call upon the name of the Lord, as a form of worship, we recognize our dependence upon Him and He will show wonders in every aspect of our lives (Joel 2:30–32).
In summary, those who call on the name of the Lord are those who recognize Him as their Saviour. Whether it is a first-time calling upon Jesus’ name for forgiveness of sins or a continuous calling as the relationship progresses and grows, giving Him lordship over our lives in surrender to His will, calling on the name of the Lord is vital to spiritual life. Ultimately,
calling on the name of the Lord is a sign of humility and total dependence on God our Creator and Redeemer.
- Do you wish to be delivered from the world and all its worries? Have you called upon the name of the Lord to deliver you?
- Lord, I call on you today to deliver me from all my troubles and set me free from all the plans of the enemy
