TEXT: HEBREWS 2:10-18
MEMORY VERSE: “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had power of death, that is the devil” Hebrews 2:14 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
Jesus is the author of our salvation, the one who opened the way to the Father. In order to achieve this, He gave up His glory, identified with man in suffering, and so became the suitable substitute for us. And while He did so, He led the way in perfect obedience.
We have a great lesson to learn from Christ’s willingness to obey the Father in order to secure salvation for man. This teaches us that willingness to obey God brings blessings, and suffering is part of the Christian’s experience in his walk with God. Therefore, we should not think it strange about the trials and sufferings we go through as believers but rather look unto the one who had been through it to strengthen us (v 18; 1 Pet. 4:12). Jesus knows the nature of man. He became one of us. He knows the temptations we endure, the needs we have and the pains which we bear.
His identification with man has given believers the privilege of being called brethren and fellow citizens with the saints. Now, He is united to us by humanity, and we are united to God by salvation. This makes us part of God’s family, which means that we are Christ’s brothers and sisters who now share in His glory and authority. Hallelujah!
- Jesus Christ is not ashamed of the ones He saved (Ps. 22:22; Eph. 2:18-22).
- Another great lesson to derive from the text is that Christ defeated the devil and delivered us from the powers of death and bondage of Satan. He did this through His death on the cross. He became victorious on our behalf for all ages.
- Father, let Christ’s victory on the cross manifest in my life.
