TEXT: ROMANS 5:12-21
MEMORY VERSE: “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life” (Romans 5:18 KJV).
Paul explained to the Romans how sin committed by Adam spread down to all mankind; and death, which is the consequence of sin was inherited by all generations of humanity.
However, the grace of God through Jesus Christ provided unmerited favour and gift of eternal life. Our self-righteousness could not meet God’s standard demand for holiness. The Bible says, “And God has reserved for his children the priceless gift of eternal life; it is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay” (1 Peter 1:4 TLB).
Significantly, Jesus the Son of God (Second Adam) replaced Adam who brought sin, death, and unrighteousness through disobedience. As a result, God is not holding anyone who believes in Jesus responsible for his or her sin. Jesus paid the price for all sins (Rom. 10:9-10 NKJV); and gave all who believe in Him “the power [authority, licence, certification] to become the sons [and daughters] of God” (John 1:12).
The point here is that we owe ourselves the responsibility to maintain the sonship that God has given us through Christ. a man once said to his son, “I have been able to secure you a good job. It is your responsibility to work effectively and conduct yourself properly to keep that job. If you lose it out of carelessness or recklessness, you have yourself to blame.”
Our Lord gave us an important counsel: “I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, in order that no one take your crown” (Rev. 3:11 NASB). Sin, the world, and Satan target your crown and eternity with Christ. Never let them succeed! You would be a grand loser if you do.
- Remain focused on your Christian race and resist sin with determination.
- Pray the Holy Spirit to empower you for a successful Christian life.
