MEMORY VERSE: “And he said unto them this kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.” Mark 9:29
TEXT: MARK 9:14-29
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

We cannot live an ordinary man kind of life and expect the extra ordinary to happen in our ministry. The disciples of Jesus were embarrassed with their inability to cast out the dumb spirit (Mark 9:14-18). The disciples had witnessed Jesus cast out demons, heal the sick, wake up the dead by mere command of His words. Being His followers, the disciples had thought that it could be so with them. But alas, the devil refused to obey them. That devil had a higher rank and is stubborn. It has troubled the child from childhood (v 21). It was a deaf and dumb spirit (v 25). Its operation in the life of the boy was disastrous and deadly (v 26). Thus, it needed total release of the fire of the Lord to move it out of the child. The disciples did not possess that fire.
The question is, how can one package his spiritual life to be able to call down the power of the fire of God in such a way that the deaf and dumb spirit will understand that there is trouble in his abode?
Of a truth, there are life challenges that do not hear or respond to life principles and formulas. Even some spiritual problems have over time defiled prayer formulas. The word of God never fails. When the times are tough and the devil persists, Jesus has revealed that it will be solved by nothing but by prayer and fasting supported by unshaken faith in the word of God (vs 19, 29).
- How often do you fast and pray?
- Father, equip me with the spiritual power to be able to attack tough situations and powers with your divine authority over, in Jesus name. Amen.
