TEXT: LUKE 9:43-50
MEMORY VERSE: “Whosoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me and whosoever welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is who is the least among you all, he is the greatest” Luke 9:48
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
Christ in this text clearly uses a child as an example of the ideal personality expected of a Christian. Children embody a model whose qualities kingdom citizens should assimilate. Children are loving, trusting, teachable, ready to accept corrections, ready to learn, uncomplicated, transparent, simple, appreciative, forgiving, innocent and free from malice. They do not keep record of wrong. These are qualities adults have lost as they live in the real world, take a moment and meditate on these. But as Christ shows they are necessary in spite of the world for anyone to be part of the kingdom of God. Christians should be able to show these qualities in spite of the challenges of life.
One very outstanding quality of children is theirs absolute trust and faith on parents that transcends any concern they could have about their vulnerability. This is the heart and attitude that God wants in those who come to Him. He needs us to be trusting and dependent on him just as children on their parents. This is the basis for a fruitful relationship with God.
The problem of man with God and his inability to deal with life issues is his lack of dependence on God. In his attempt to do things by himself, he has ended up complicating issues and destroying the very things that was meant for his good. Just as children cannot survive independently, man cannot survive without God. Christ says without me ye can do nothing. It is in him that we live and have our being.
CHALLENGES
- Why do you think children are able to exhibit the qualities that endear them to God?
- Is it the same with you?
PRAYERS:
- Ask God to enable you overcome the complication of adulthood
- Pray for the Christians you know, that they may be like children in their relationships.
