ESOCS Devotional 31 August 2024 – Cast Your Burdens
MEMORY VERSE: “All the people were amazed at the mighty power of God…” Luke 9:43
TEXT: LUKE 9:37-43
Now it happened on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, that a great multitude met Him. 38 Suddenly a man from the multitude cried out, saying, “Teacher, I implore You, look on my son, for he is my only child. 39 And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out; it convulses him so that he foams at the mouth; and it departs from him with great difficulty, bruising him. 40 So I implored Your disciples to cast it out, but they could not.”
41 Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.” 42 And as he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him. Then Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the child, and gave him back to his father.
43 And they were all amazed at the majesty of God.
But while everyone marveled at all the things which Jesus did, He said to His disciples,

There is truly nothing impossible with God. He is Omnipotent and Almighty. No man, spirit or beast can stand His might. From ancient times to this day, God has always shown Himself strong and mighty than all in His dealings with men. Those who relied on God had the cause to testify of His goodness and might.
In our text today, we see Jesus Christ solve a problem that had lasted for long and defied the power of medicine. Even the Disciples of Christ could not resolve it. But as the boy came to Jesus “…the demon knocked him to the ground and threw him into a fit. Jesus gave a command to the evil spirit, healed the boy, and gave him back to his father” (Luke 9:38-42).
What are the issues with you? Have you tried to resolve it yourself? Have you fasted and prayed over it? Have you brought it to the attention of the brethren to join hands with you in prayer? Have you followed up your prayers with a vow? Have you gone out to preach the gospel for the sake of that problem and while preaching, declared the power of God over the issue you have? These are steps you can take to cast your burdens upon the Lord. He will surely attend to you if you rely on Him.
Truly, testimonies abound about how people got relief when they cast their burdens on Christ Jesus. We hear testimonies in the Church every day and we experience God’s grace and uncountable signs and wonders every other day. Truly, God can do it all. He is able. Nothing can limit His powers.
- Is there any life issue that Jesus Christ cannot handle?
- Lord, I believe that you can do all things. My times are in your hands, Oh Lord. Keep me safe from all troubles, in Jesus name. Amen.
