TEXT: JOHN 14:15-31
MEMORY VERSE: “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:18
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
Each point in time in our lives, God is always with us wherever we go. The assurance of His presence with us is in our Lord Jesus Christ in whom we have believed; for he who has Jesus has everything. The Scripture says, “for in Him we live and move and have our being … For we are also His offspring’” (Acts 17:28). He is our sufficiency. We are incomplete without Him. 2 Corinthians 3:5 says, “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God”; and that “… God is able to make all grace abound toward [us], that [we], always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work” (2 Cor. 9:8).
Jesus cares dearly for us. He is with us at all times. He is always there to protect us. He has given His angels commandment to protect us who have believed in Him, at all times (Psalm 91:1-16). The psalmist says, “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me.” (Ps. 27:10). We are given the counsel to cast all our burdens upon Him because “… He cares for [us]” (1 Pet. 5:7). Our Lord looks at the relationship between Him and us as that between a father and his children. Therefore He has promised that although He is not physically present with us, He would be spiritually present with us at all times; and that He would continually show us the kindness of a parent. He will always protect us and provide for our needs and ensure our welfare.
We have received adoption as children through Him (Eph. 1:5; Rom. 8:15; Rom. 8:23; Rom. 9:4; Gal. 4:5). Therefore, we are members of His divine family: the family of Christians, and of the saints of God through Jesus Christ. Consequently, we have the right to the benefits that belong to the members of that glorious family. He promised that He would love us; and that because He lives forever, we shall also live with Him forever.
Our Lord encourages us to continue in our relationship with Him till the end of our days on earth. The world that has rejected Him is completely cut off from Him; and therefore, His presence is not with them. It would not see Him again until His Second Coming when He would give them their befitting reward. He said, “And behold, I am coming quickly, and my reward is with me, to give to every one according to his work” (Re 22:12). But those of us that have believed in Him and obey Him would continue to feel and experience His divine presence in our lives. He said, “and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20). With our eyes of faith, we shall continue to see Him sitting at the right hand of the Father as the King of kings and Lord of lords; and He will return to take us home to heaven, and we will be with Him forever.
