TEXT: JOHN 1:24-51
MEMORY VERSE: “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29 NKJV).
John the Baptist announced our Lord to the world, and to us. By that singular act, he fulfilled his calling. He did the work he came to do, the call of destiny in his life. The work was done; and he had to go. He sealed it when he said, “He [Jesus] must increase, but I must decrease. [He must grow more prominent; I must grow less so.]” (John 3:30 AMP).
Now, what have we done with that announcement? It was an advertisement. When good products are advertised, the producers expect people to purchase them for use. The Holy Spirit spoke through John the Baptist and advertised the Lord Jesus. God expects us to embrace Him, love Him, accept Him truly as the Lord of our life, obey Him (Luke 6:46), and live our life by His word (John 8:31). What have we done with His word? How much have we applied his wise counsels to our daily living?
When He was crucified, many people went to see and witness the event for different reasons. Some were there to mock Him. Some were there because they were sorrowful in their hearts about the wickedness of man. Many mothers and matriarchs of our Christian faith were there with anguish in the hearts and souls. The Bible records that “When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”” (Matt. 27:54 NIV). Yet, one man tapped into grace at that moment and reaped the benefit of the cross. He prayed to our Lord, “”Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom” (Luke 23:42 NKJV). Our Lord said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43
NKJV). What have we done with Jesus and His word?
- Think deeply about what you have done with Jesus and His word.
- Lord, give me grace to follow Jesus daily by His word.
