MEMORY VERSE: “To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace”.Luke 1:79
TEXT: LUKE 1:67-END (KJV)
And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

Bible history holds that from the time of Prophet Malachi’s death, Israel stayed 400 years without a Prophet, up until John the Baptist showed up. One cannot imagine the chaotic period the Israelites nation was into.
Finally, light was breaking forth from darkness. It was a new dawn for the Israelites nation. Prophetically, it was the start of a new beginning for them as a nation, because the man who would make way for the Messiah had just arrived.
Luke 1:76-77–“And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins”,
Verse 77 tells us of the prophetic blueprint of baby John; how that the child will go before the Lord to prepare his ways and to bring people to the knowledge of salvation, which God had promised first to Israel and to the uttermost part of the earth.
For every time darkness persists over a territory, family and even a matter, the ultimate answer is light. Whenever God wants to reach out to man, the first thing he gives to him is light. It is this light that will make for an ultimate understanding and launching into our divine inheritance.
1 Peter 2:9-10 KJV- But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light; which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
As joint heirs of salvation, one of the fringe benefits we have is the privilege of walking in this marvelous light.
- Desire the light of God in every area of your life, as it is the bedrock for divine revelation and direction amidst this sinful world.
- Dear Lord, I decree that your light shines in my life and cast away all forms of darkness and brighten my endeavours in Jesus name, Amen.
