TEXT: JOHN 14:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6 KJV).
This is one of the most basic and important passages in the Bible; yet, many Christians do not understand how He is the way, the truth and the life.
The only way to God is through Jesus because He is both God and man – He came to man in human form to deliver him from sin (Matthew 1:21). He is sitting on the right-hand side of God as our High Priest and Advocate (Hebrews 4:14, 15; 1 John 2:1). He unites our lives with His, so we are united with God. Some people argue that He being the only way, is narrow. But in reality, it is wide enough for the whole world, if the world chooses to accept that way. Instead of this argument, we should be grateful that we have a reliable way to get to God. It is both reliable and wide enough to contain all who come to Him. It is ‘narrow’ because they cannot keep the truth – His commandments.
As the truth, He is the reality of all God’s promises. He is God and cannot lie (Numbers 23:19; Psalm 89: 34, 35; Hebrews 6:18). Man lies and is fallible ([Numbers 23:19). God’s conducts and sayings are not crooked, but straight; they are yes and Amen. The search for truth and reality starts and ends with Jesus.
As the life, He joins His divine life to ours, both now and eternally. Life in Him is assuring, peaceful, and eternal. God is the Creator of the earth and gives life (John 11:25; 3:16). Man cannot give life.
As the way, Jesus leads us to God. As the truth, He is the reality of all God’s promises. As the life, He joins His divine life to ours, both now and eternally. No controversy here! He is the way, the truth, and the life.
- Are there other teachings confusing your belief that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life?
- Ask God to open the eyes of your understanding to know and believe the truth about Jesus Christ.
