TEXT: DANIEL 4:13-27
MEMORY VERSE: “He ruleth by His power forever; His eyes behold the nations; let not the rebellious exalt themselves, Selah.” Psalm 66:7
In Luke 12:16-20, we read of a certain rich man whose farm brought forth plentifully and how he began to boast within himself as if it were by his strength and wisdom, instead of glorifying God. But in God’s sight, he was only a fool, and, his life was required from him forthwith (Luke 12:20).
In our text today, we see also that King Nebuchadnezzar had become so full of himself, feeling within himself that there was none like him in the universe. In Daniel 4:30, the king spoke thus: “… Is not this great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?” Our God is a jealous God (Exodus 20:5), and would not tolerate any form of self-aggrandizement or glorification from any being. God expects men, no matter how highly placed, to remain humble. Nebuchadnezzar felt otherwise, and God Almighty had no choice than to prove him wrong. He wondered in the wild like beasts for seven seasons. Hence the reality of the scripture in Matthew 23:12 thus, “And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”

CHALLENGES
- Looking closely at Matt. 23:12 and see the scripture’s stand on self-exaltation is very firm. How does your life style reflect on this position?
PRAYER POINT
- Lord, grant me the grace to humble myself, so as to attract the divine promotion from above. Amen.
