TEXT: HEBREWS 1:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: “Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” Hebrew 1:2 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
In a family setting, one of the proofs that the children belong to certain parents is the physical resemblance between a child and his mother or father. The book of Hebrews Chapter 1, clearly points out attributes, which Jesus possesses with the Father and also His exalted position. Verses 2 and 10 state that Christ is the heir of all things, as the world was created by Him. This implies that He actually existed before the creation of the world; no wonder God said; “Let us make man in our own image.” He was there in the Old and New Testament and did every miracle that was done. The Bible made us to understand that He is a priest in the order of Melchizedek who had no beginning or ending; He only came through Mary by incarnation (John 1:30; 8:56-58). God calls Jesus my Son; no angel is ever addressed in that manner. He is God’s firstborn and first among many brethren. This gives Him the place of honor and dignity by the Father (Col. 1:15). Verses 3-9, talk about Christ as the express image of God in terms of manifesting power and love. Through His love for man, He offered Himself on the cross. Like the Father, He cannot behold iniquity; and so, verse 9 says, “Thou has loved righteousness, and hated iniquity…”
Christ is the sovereign Lord of all, and all other angels are subordinate to Him. They serve and worships Him. In addition, angels are ministering spirits to the believer.
Having known the position of Jesus Christ in heaven and His sovereignty over the earth, what should be our attitude towards worshiping and serving Him? We must honor Him above all things, and not neglect the truth we have known about Him, else we suffer worse consequences than those who disobeyed the truth revealed by Moses. Also, there is impending judgment on every sinner who ignores such great salvation (Heb. 2:3; Titus 2:11).
- Jesus is the image of the Father and the firstborn of all believers. Whose image are you?
- Father, grant me the grace to be like my Lord Jesus Christ.
