TEXT: JOHN 20:26-31
MEMORY VERSE: “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God; and that by believing ye might have life through his name.” John 20:31KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
In the world, the saying goes that ‘seeing is believing.’ Carnal men do not agree with the scripture until they see the evidence of it. Among the Disciples of Christ, Thomas was of this character. He could not believe the resurrection of Jesus except he saw in His hands the print of the nails and put his finger into the print of the nails. (John 20:25).
This is the problem we have today in preaching the gospel. A good number of people within and outside the congregation do not agree that the gospel message of Salvation through Jesus Christ is true because they have not seen the evidence of it (John 20:27-39).
We must understand that the words written in the Bible are true word of God translated to chosen men and women of God through inspiration, revelation, life experience etc. and they are trustworthy and infallible. They are raw expressions of the wisdom of God. It is by its observance that we can live the kind of life that God desires and access the blessing and glory of God (John 3:15; John 20:29).
Jesus Christ is God. As Christians, we must accept His teachings and that of early apostles upon whom He breathed the Holy Spirit (John 20:22), as true. He is the word of God which was made flesh in the likeness of men (John 1:1). We should therefore accept, believe, and practice His words until we meet and see Him in glory. Those who are waiting to see before they believe, will surely wait to see the reality of hell fire when they die. It will then be too late. We have got to receive and believe Christ now and get eternal life.
- Do you have any reason to disbelieve the written words of God?
- Father, give me an understanding heart. Let me find reason to agree with your words always, in Jesus Name. Amen
