ESOCS Devotional 29 May 2025 – Get Ready For The Reward
MEMORY VERSE: “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Revelation 22:12
TEXT: REVELATION 22:12-21
And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.”
Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

The word rendered as “reward” in the memory verse is the Greek word “misthos”, which is to pay for service, wages or hire. It means what you receive in exchange for service rendered. It is also what you are given for what you have done. From the text, the scope is to every man.
Our memory verse gives us a hint: everything we do in life is noted and recorded in heaven; it is a service or a work, for which we will receive payment when at the Lord’s Second Coming. This would be either for good or for punishment depending on what we have done. Therefore, we should consciously incline our hearts to live righteously and always do only the things that are good and right in the sight of God in order to receive good rewards from our Lord. He is the great Pay Master.
Let us be faithful servants, for only such people will receive good rewards. Let us remain faithful in our Christian life, in His Kingdom business, in our love for Him and other people, in obedience to His word and commandment, and in everything we do in life within and outside the Church. We should treat people kindly and seek their happiness. We should lift people from the pit of poverty where we can – remember the story of the rich man and the poor Lazarus (Lk. 16:19-31). In societies across the world today, there are people who received great rewards in the future for the kindness they showed to other people in the past. Little kindnesses go a long way to lift people’s spirit and give them succour. Let us desire to be the Samaritan. God will reward us bountifully and eternally too. He will never forget our kind deeds. The Bible says, “For God is not unjust to forget your work and labour of* love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister” (Heb. 6:10 NKJV).
We should do only such things that would make God say to us, “Thank you and well done” (Matt. 25:21). Let us earnestly keep ourselves busy doing the things that would make God identify us as people that are “after my heart” (Acts 13:22). We would do well to be among the people in whom our Lord would find faith when He comes again (Lk. 18:8). We should be conscious to live our life in such a manner that at the Second Coming of our Lord He would not reject us and cast us away from His presence (Rev. 3:15-16). Don’t forget, beloved, that He said, “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Planto receive a good reward, not a bad one or punishment.
