TEXT: REVELATION 1:1-8
MEMORY VERSE: “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near” (Rev. 1:3 NKJV).
There are three significant points in the memory verse: to read God’s word, hear the word, and keep, obey or live by the word. The reason for the admonition is that “the time is near” – the time of the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus.
It would be a time of judgement, and not of deliverance or to save. For people who read, hear, and live by the word of God through obeying everything it says, it would be a time of joy, rejoicing, and merry making; for others, a time of sorrow, anguish, pain, and eternal regrets.
The earlier we make our choice, the better for us. The Bible encourages us to redeem the time if we have wasted it in frivolities, worldliness, and all forms of ungodliness (). We would not have the opportunity once the trumpet sounds. At that time, God would be interested only in harvesting His saints. All cries for mercy and pardon would be ignored.
Let us get deep into the word, unearth the truth it contains, digest them in our heart and mind, and let them guide us in our daily living. Let us cherish it, adore it, love it, prioritise it, and endear it to our heart. Let us take it seriously; and not casually.
Let us be prepared to hear it over and over again. We should never be tired of it; rather, let it refresh us each time we hear it. The word of God is pleasant and good. It helped people in the ancient times to remould their life. It can do more for us today. Let us pay special attention to all that it teaches us: “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” (Rom. 15:4 NIV).
- Fill your heart with God’s word and do it, and you would not sin.
- Lord, let it please you to keep me from falling away.
