TEXT: MATTHEW 25:1-18
MEMORY VERSE: “Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the son of man cometh.” Matthew 25:13 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
In Matthew Chapter 25:1-13, Jesus told the parable of the ten bridesmaid popularly known as the Parable of the Ten Virgins. It is one of the parables He used to clarify further what it means to be ready for His return and how to live until He comes.
In this parable, ten bridesmaid went with their lamps to meet the bridegroom who would take them to marriage feast. Five of them were wise, and the other five, foolish. While the former took additional oil for their lamps in case of need, the later did not; and later in the night, they ran out of oil. While they went to buy oil, the bridegroom, who delayed his coming, came and took the five wise ones.
The parable addressed issues of maturity and responsibility. The five wise ones are the mature and responsible people because they made adequate preparation for the marriage feast – they took extra oil. The five foolish ones are the immature and irresponsible people because they made inadequate preparation – they did not take extra oil. When Jesus returns to take His people to heaven, we must be ready. Spiritual preparation cannot be bought or borrowed at the last minute. Jesus will not come until all prophecies are completed; for instance, the gospel would be preached to all parts of the world, then the end will come.
The motto of the Boy’s Scout movement is: “Be prepared”. We should be wise enough to be ready at all times because according to the scripture, nobody knows the time Christ would come.
- The things of the world distracts, and can make you not to be ready.
- Ask God the grace to stay on till Christ comes.
