TEXT: EXODUS 19:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine.” Exodus 19:5 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
In our text today, God made a promise to the children of Israel when He said “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people…” (Exodus 19:5). This promise was meant to assure them of how precious they were in the sight of God, and to encourage them to remain obedient to His covenant. When you become born again, you are expected to be an obedient child of God (1 Peter 1:4); and as a result, you became a peculiar treasure unto God.
Here is the sovereign majesty of God and His power to redeem the Hebrews from Egyptian captivity, to bring them unto Himself, to make them His special treasure, so that they would give God the glory through their response to His works towards them. “Ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation” (v 6). He says, a peculiar treasure unto me above all people” (v 4). What a high calling! What a privilege was given to the Hebrews!
Being a peculiar treasure unto God requires holiness and total obedience (Exodus 19:8-1). God told Moses to sanctify the people and get them ready before they could come to Him. God is still speaking to us today, that we must ensure we live a life of holiness and total obedience to His word if we are to enjoy being in His presence, and being called His own.
Therefore, you must live with the consciousness that you’re not an ordinary person; you’re a peculiar treasure to God. The Scripture says, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). You’re His peculiar treasure.
- As God’s peculiar treasure, are you living your life for His own glory?
- Dear Lord, help me not to live a life of disappointment to you.
