ESOCS Devotional 29 August 2025 – Blessed Above Women in the Tent
MEMORY VERSE: “Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.” Judges 5:24
TEXT: JUDGES 5:19-END
“The kings came and fought,
Then the kings of Canaan fought
In Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo;
They took no spoils of silver.
20 They fought from the heavens;
The stars from their courses fought against Sisera.
21 The torrent of Kishon swept them away,
That ancient torrent, the torrent of Kishon.
O my soul, march on in strength!
22 Then the horses’ hooves pounded,
The galloping, galloping of his steeds.
23 ‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel of the Lord,
‘Curse its inhabitants bitterly,
Because they did not come to the help of the Lord,
To the help of the Lord against the mighty.’
24 “Most blessed among women is Jael,
The wife of Heber the Kenite;
Blessed is she among women in tents.
25 He asked for water, she gave milk;
She brought out cream in a lordly bowl.
26 She stretched her hand to the tent peg,
Her right hand to the workmen’s hammer;
She pounded Sisera, she pierced his head,
She split and struck through his temple.
27 At her feet he sank, he fell, he lay still;
At her feet he sank, he fell;
Where he sank, there he fell dead.
28 “The mother of Sisera looked through the window,
And cried out through the lattice,
‘Why is his chariot so long in coming?
Why tarries the clatter of his chariots?’
29 Her wisest ladies answered her,
Yes, she answered herself,
30 ‘Are they not finding and dividing the spoil:
To every man a girl or two;
For Sisera, plunder of dyed garments,
Plunder of garments embroidered and dyed,
Two pieces of dyed embroidery for the neck of the looter?’
31 “Thus let all Your enemies perish, O Lord!
But let those who love Him be like the sun
When it comes out in full strength.”
So the land had rest for forty years.

“Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all” (Prov. 31:29). In fulfilling prophesy, Jael became a veritable tool in the quest to conquer Sisera, the Captain of the host of Assyria that have troubled Israel for 20 years. May every enemy around our lives be totally defeated, in Jesus name.
Heber, the husband of Jael had informed Sisera that Barak was gone up to Mount Tabor. While the interaction lasted, Jael was in the know. This knowledge propelled her into action that earned her a place in the victory song of Deborah, confirming her blessed above women in the tent.
Here are some of the lessons from the life of Jael as a blessed woman:
- She was fully involved in her husband’s life and assignment: She had interest in all that concerned her husband. The questions to our wives are: how much of your husband business do you know? How much are you helping him to fulfill purpose in all that he is meant to do? Are you interested enough in your husband for him to tell you his challenges? Can you confidentially be relied upon by your husband? Woman! Don’t feel less concerned or pay lip service to what your husband is doing in life, get fully involved.
- She received visitors and strangers with excitement: It is very clear that the nature of reception Sisera received from the house of Heber through Jael propelled him to run towards her tent in his time of distress. Note that he did not make mistake of the particular tent he was running to: “Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the kenite…” (Judges 4:17).What kind of reception do you give to people that come your way? How do you relate to people that are connected, associated or related to your husband? Elder’s wife, what is your disposition towards church members? How receptive are you to your in-laws?
- She was an encourager and hospitable: Can people approach you when they are in distress? Are you full of condemnation or commendation in your mouth? Let your life be an encouragement to those that come around, and be hospitable. Sure, these two qualities further made Sisera to run to Jael’s tent and he was not disappointed.
- She was extremely hospitable and became the instrument that destroyed the enemy of God’s people.
CHALLENGES
- Work on yourself until you become a vessel of honour fit for the Master’s use.
PRAYER POINT:
- Father, thank you for blessing us beyond measure. Grant us the grace to develop the character that would fuel these blessings in our lives, in Jesus name. Amen.
