ESOCS Devotional 29 August 2023 – When He Walks Among Us
MEMORY VERSE: “I will live among you, and I will not despise you. I will walk among you; I will be your God, and you will be my people.” Leviticus 26:11 & 12
TEXT: LEVITICUS 26:1-13 (KJV)
Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.
2 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.
3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
4 Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
5 And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
6 And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.
7 And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.
8 And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.
9 For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.
10 And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.
11 And I set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.
12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.
13 I am the Lord your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

All the time, God wants to have an intimate relationship with us as a people, and as individuals. He yearns for it, as a mother would want to cuddle her new born child. He wants a one-on-one relationship with each of us. He does not want us to stray from Him. He knows the dangers that are there in the wild world. He is much more than a protective loving mother. He wants to keep us safe by His side. There are thorns, pitfalls, and many snares everywhere we turn. He does not want us to become victims. The scripture reminds us that the evil one, Satan, moves about like a roaring lion looking for somebody to lead astray and destroy (1 Pet. 5:8). Our loving heavenly Father does not want us to fall prey.
He has said, “I will live among you, and I will not despise you” (v 11). It is the most beautiful thing. The benefits are many. We would live under His ever-watchful eyes (Jer. 24:6). He will protect us on all sides (Ps. 91:1). He will fight our battles and we shall hold our peace (Ex. 14:14). His blessings would abound towards us (Gen. 32:17). He would fill our lives with joy. We would always live in divine health; but even if we fall sick, He will come like the holy dove with healing in its wings (Mal. 4:2). His glory will be upon us (Rom. 8:18). His banner over us will be love, mercy, and grace (Songs 2:4). We will be the apple of His eyes (Deut. 32:10). He will always go before us to make the crooked places straight (Is. 45:2). He will continually enlarge our coasts (1 Chr. 4:10). In times of trial and temptation, He will be the fourth man in our fire (Dan. 3:35). The tempests of life will not make our lifeboats to capsize because He is in our lifeboats (Mk. 4:39). In times of famine and hardship, He will supply all that we need according His riches (Phil. 4:19).
He made us another great promise. He said, “I will walk among you.” When He walks among us, we shall walk with Him. He will be our guide. He will give us a heart to know Him (Jer. 24:7). He will give us wise counsels that will enable us succeed in life and in the Christian race. He will open to us the secret places of undiscovered riches. He will teach us the secrets that would help us live above sin. We would make a major shift in Christ and remain very far from the world. He will lead us out of trouble and temptation; and deliver us from evil. He will lead us to eternal life with Jesus.
- Have you ever experienced a feeling of Jesus walking by your side on the road?
- If so, begin to recount your experience again, especially how you felt many days after.
- Pray that Jesus will walk by your side all the time through life.
