ESOCS Devotional 29 April 2025 – The End Shall Come
MEMORY VERSE: “Many of those who have already died will live again: some will enjoy eternal life, and some will suffer eternal disgrace.” Daniel 12:2
TEXT: DANIEL 12:1-13
“At that time Michael shall stand up,
The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people;
And there shall be a time of trouble,
Such as never was since there was a nation,
Even to that time.
And at that time your people shall be delivered,
Every one who is found written in the book.
2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
Some to everlasting life,
Some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 Those who are wise shall shine
Like the brightness of the firmament,
And those who turn many to righteousness
Like the stars forever and ever.
4 “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
5 Then I, Daniel, looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that riverbank. 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?”
7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.
8 Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?”
9 And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.
11 “And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.
13 “But you, go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.”

Life on earth has a record kept by God, which will be used both for our benefit and disadvantage by God at the last day. This truth is by God’s revelation and no one should doubt it. God’s word is to be believed and not disputed. It is only fools that dispute the word of God. In our text today, Daniel gets another message from God. That a time of tribulation will come but the angel Michael will come to save God’s people (vv. 1-2).
God’s people are those whose names are written in the Book of Life. In John 1:12, they are those who received and believed in Jesus Christ and are given the power to live as children of God. Yes, no one can live a righteous life unless he has received the Holy Ghost. (Acts 1:8).
The life and character of men of righteousness is plain and they are written in the scripture. We should use the scripture to measure our weight in righteousness (Rom. 1:16, 17). The stipulations are clear. The righteous are wise as leaders and at the end they will shine like stars. The righteous teach people righteousness through their words and deeds, and at the end they will shine like stars forever (v 3).
Life in Christ cannot be without persecution. But the truth is that after persecution comes the crown. We must endure all things to remain righteous (v 1). It is vain disputing the message of God. The unrepentant wicked people will certainly lose the reward of heaven at last because they will never believe the scripture to be made righteous. We are advised to make our confession when we realize sin and get saved from it (vv. 10-12).
Surely, the reward of the righteous will come at the end and it will be glorious. But the wicked will be doomed in eternal hell fire (vv. 2, 13). May the Lord keep us in righteousness. Amen
