ESOCS Devotional 28 October 2024 – Turn to Him and Be Saved
MEMORY VERSE: “Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:22 ESV
TEXT: ISAIAH 45:18-END
For thus says the Lord,
Who created the heavens,
Who is God,
Who formed the earth and made it,
Who has established it,
Who did not create it in vain,
Who formed it to be inhabited:
“I am the Lord, and there is no other.
19 I have not spoken in secret,
In a dark place of the earth;
I did not say to the seed of Jacob,
‘Seek Me in vain’;
I, the Lord, speak righteousness,
I declare things that are right.
20 “Assemble yourselves and come;
Draw near together,
You who have escaped from the nations.
They have no knowledge,
Who carry the wood of their carved image,
And pray to a god that cannot save.
21 Tell and bring forth your case;
Yes, let them take counsel together.
Who has declared this from ancient time?
Who has told it from that time?
Have not I, the Lord?
And there is no other God besides Me,
A just God and a Savior;
There is none besides Me.
22 “Look to Me, and be saved,
All you ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
23 I have sworn by Myself;
The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness,
And shall not return,
That to Me every knee shall bow,
Every tongue shall take an oath.
24 He shall say,
‘Surely in the Lord I have righteousness and strength.
To Him men shall come,
And all shall be ashamed
Who are incensed against Him.
25 In the Lord all the descendants of Israel
Shall be justified, and shall glory.’ ”
For childhood and youth are vanity.

This is a call by the Almighty GOD to all people even to the farthest ends of the earth: to turn to Him to be saved. In one sense, “to be saved” means to be taken from a place of danger to a place of safety! There is an interesting story of a man who got “saved” from the sinking Titanic and from hell. When the ship struck the iceberg and people were drowning, attempting to get into the life boats, there was this Scottish evangelist, John Harper frantically trying to lead people to salvation before they sank. He came across this young man afloat on a piece of debris to whom he addressed: ‘Are you saved?’ The man said, ‘No’ and refused to be led to Christ. Harper swam off to others but a few minutes later came back to that man and finally succeeded in leading him to salvation. Harper died but this man, one of the six survivors rescued, lived to tell the story of how he was saved!
A man who is far from His Creator, living in rebellion and following the course of this world is already heading towards hell. This is the place of danger that he needs to be saved from and be brought into the eternal Kingdom of God! And that was exactly why Jesus Christ came into the world: to save us (John 3:17). God has declared in His Word that salvation is found in no other than Jesus Christ; and GOD has given no other name, which mankind can call on, to be saved (Acts 4:12). He is the Saviour of the world. The name “Jesus” itself means “Saviour.” Why should people turn to Him to be saved? Because He is GOD and there is none else. No other “gods” or idols, or idolized people or religious beliefs can save man from being eternally damned. We have to turn from the wrong way we have been walking so far- away from God and His ways, and turn to Him. He is able to save both in this life and the life to come!
Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life and no one gets to the Living GOD except through Him (John 14:6). He is the connecting link for sinful man to the holy God because Jesus Christ was fully human and fully God, while He was living on this earth. God being righteous and holy would not accept sinful man in his fallen condition. At the same time, because of God’s love for man, He wanted to save man! The loving God established a way to accept sinful man without compromising His righteousness – the punishment as the consequence of sin, which is death, was borne by Jesus Christ; and anyone who puts his trust in Jesus by admitting his own sins, will be accepted by God, since the punishment for his sins are already borne by Jesus. Would you heed to God’s call to turn to Him and be saved today?
- Remember to make friends with Jesus.
- Lord, give me the spirit to be useful to you in your Kingdom business.
