ESOCS Devotional 28 November 2025 – Do Not Forget To Do Good
MEMORY VERSE: ““But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” Hebrews 13:16
TEXT: HEBREWS 13:16-END
But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.
18 Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably. 19 But I especially urge you to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.
20 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
22 And I appeal to you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation, for I have written to you in few words. 23 Know that our brother Timothy has been set free, with whom I shall see you if he comes shortly.
24 Greet all those who rule over you, and all the saints. Those from Italy greet you.
25 Grace be with you all. Amen.

This verse emphasizes the importance of practical Christian living, acts of kindness, generosity, and service, which reflect the heart of God and please Him deeply. It is a reminder that while faith and worship are central to the Christian life, our relationship with God must also manifest in how we treat others. The phrase “do not forget” signals the need for intentionality. It implies that it is easy to get caught up in the routines of life or even religious activities and overlook the call to love others through tangible actions. The writer of Hebrews is reminding us that true faith is lived out in our behaviour toward others. In James 2:17, we read that “Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” This underscores the necessity of good works as the fruit of genuine faith. These actions are not a means of earning salvation, but a natural response to the grace we have received in Christ.
The verse also emphasizes the importance of “sharing with others,” highlighting the Christian duty to be generous. This is not just about giving money or material goods, but sharing our time, attention, and love with those in need. 1 John 3:17 challenges us with the question, “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” Sharing is a practical expression of the love that we have received from God, and it reflects His character of giving.
Hebrews 13:16 describes these actions as “sacrifices.” In the Old Testament, sacrifices were an essential part of worship, where offerings were made to God as an act of devotion. In the New Testament, however, sacrifices are redefined. Instead of offering animals, believers are called to offer their lives and services as a spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship.” Our good deeds, acts of kindness, and generosity become sacrifices that honour God.
These sacrifices are especially pleasing to God because they reflect His own generosity and goodness. God is a giver by nature, as demonstrated in the greatest gift of all, Jesus Christ. John 3:16 reminds us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son …” When we give to others, we imitate God’s heart, making our lives an extension of His love and grace to the world.
Furthermore, Galatians 6:10 encourages, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Doing good and sharing with others is not limited to certain times or people; it should be an ongoing practice in the life of a believer, showing love both within the church and to the world. Doing good and sharing with others is a reflection of the love and generosity of God. These acts of kindness are sacrifices that please God and serve as a testimony of His grace working through us.
