ESOCS Devotional 28 March 2025 – Salvation Through Confession and Belief
MEMORY VERSE: ““For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:10 NKJV
TEXT: ROMANS 10:1-10
Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.” 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, “ ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

When we think about “confession,” most people think about admitting guilt, which is unpleasant. But we can also confess good things. For example, we may confess that we love our husband or wife, our children, our country, etc. To confess means to declare, acknowledge, profess, or dmit.
One confesses when he openly declares that he is convinced a thing is true. Confession is the opposite of denial or silence. Three elements are needed for a proper confession; belief in the heart that a certain thing is true, a decision that one is willing to make an open commitment and let others know and a statement acknowledging, professing, or declaring the conviction.
Our passage holds paramount importance in understanding God’s will and plan for our lives as followers of Christ. Firstly, it underscores the foundational truth that salvation is not a result of our own efforts or merits but is entirely dependent on our confession of Jesus as Lord and our belief in His resurrection. This truth strips away any notions of self-reliance or righteousness based on our actions, reminding us that our standing before God is solely based on His grace and the finished work of Christ on the cross.
Moreover, this passage highlights the simplicity and accessibility of salvation, making it available to all who confess and believe. Regardless of our past mistakes, shortcomings, or doubts, the invitation to salvation remains open to each one of us. By emphasizing the importance of confession and belief, this passage reassures us of God’s unconditional love and His desire for reconciliation with us.
Additionally, the significance of this passage extends beyond personal salvation to our role as witnesses of the gospel. As recipients of God’s grace, we are called to share this life-transforming message with others. Our confession of Jesus as Lord and our belief in His resurrection serve as powerful testimonies of God’s redeeming love and offer hope to those who are lost. Thus, embracing this passage equips us to fulfil our mission as ambassadors of Christ, proclaiming His truth and leading others into a relationship with Him.
By actively confessing Jesus as our Lord in our words, actions, and decisions, we align ourselves with His will and surrender to His authority. This means acknowledging His sovereignty in every aspect of our lives, from our relationships and careers to our ambitions and dreams. Additionally, believing in the resurrection of Jesus empowers us to live with hope and confidence, knowing that His victory over sin and death extends to us as well. Let’s hold firm to this confession of faith, trusting in the resurrection power of our Lord Jesus Christ.
