TEXT: JOHN 6:24-71
MEMORY VERSE: ““And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing at the last day.” John 6: 39 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
The will of God the Father is whatever He has decreed in His wisdom, knowledge, holiness, and grace. The will of God is our salvation. It was from the will of God that the very thought of salvation first arose. Had we been left to our own wills, we should have been willing to wander further and farther away from God. No man originated the idea of restoration for our race; God Himself willed it, and it is from the purpose of His grace that all our hopes begin; and the will which originated salvation shaped and formed it. It was God’s will that ordained salvation by faith, salvation through an atoning sacrifice, salvation by the way of the new birth, salvation by the way of perseverance up to perfection. It is His will that has brought those of us who are saved into the knowledge of the truth, by which will also we are sanctified.
The most important issue in life is whether we are obeying the Father’s will. It won’t happen automatically; but it must be learned and put into practice in both our attitudes and actions. Hebrews 5:8 shows us that even Jesus “learned obedience from the things which He suffered.” This doesn’t mean that He sinned at one point, and therefore, had to learn to obey. He always did His Father’s will (John 6:38). However, in His humanity, He learned from experience the costly impact of full obedience when He went to the cross.
Jesus is the ultimate example of obedience. When He was talking to the Samaritan woman, He explained that, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to accomplish His work” (John 4:34). Jesus was basically saying that obeying His Father brought Him fulfillment. It wasn’t the approval of the crowds who came to hear Him speak but the joy of pleasing the Father that satisfied His soul.
Our eternal destiny depends upon doing the will of the Father (Matt. 7:21). Doing the will of the Father, then, is acting upon truth, acknowledging reality and God’s omniscience. Remember, only those who believe in Jesus and are depending on Him for salvation will do the will of the Father.
- Remember that the Father’s will for you is His salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Ensure you keep your side of the bargain by obeying His will.
- Heavenly Father, help me to seek your kingdom and righteousness.
