TEXT: LUKE 9:10-17
MEMORY VERSE: “And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. “Luke 9:11
10 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted place here.”
13 But He said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people.” 14 For there were about five thousand men.
Then He said to His disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of fifty.” 15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.
16 Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 So they all ate and were [a]filled, and twelve baskets of the leftover fragments were taken up by them.
It is important that we come to terms with the fact that we were made for the Master’s use. We have been called as labourers into the field to make bountiful harvest for God and His kingdom, regardless of our field, sector, discipline or work, be it a professional discipline or petty trading. The reason why you are influential in your circle or area is not just because God wants to make you popular that men may sing your praise. No! But that through your influence you can win souls for Jesus.
From our memory verse, you will observe the kind of influence Jesus had on the multitude, such that anywhere He went, they followed Him by any means. But here’s what He did with them when they came to meet Him while having His quiet time. He started teaching them about the kingdom of God. He healed them. You too can replicate it with your circle of friends, your colleagues at work, your business partners, your classmates, your neighbours, and even to your household. The preaching of the gospel is not meant for the evangelists or men of God alone.
Jesus is the answer our world has been looking for in ages past. Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life” (John 8:12 NLT).
Invest more time talking about Jesus to the unsaved than you do watching movies, playing on social media, idle talks with friends and neighbors. Invest your time in kingdom advancement and together we will win more souls for Jesus. Step out today with the consciousness of telling someone about Jesus, someone you know is desperately in need of Jesus. They may not know that what they need is Jesus but as one who has tasted of the goodness and mercies of Jesus, you should know one who needs same. Please reach out to someone today.
- As Jesus Christ did it, so He has empowered you to do. Greater works shall you do.
- Gracious Father, I receive the power for greater exploits for the Kingdom, in Jesus name.
