ESOCS Devotional 28 February 2025 – He Knows Our Difficulties
MEMORY VERSE: ““For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.” Hebrews 2:18 KJV
TEXT: HEBREW 2:14- 18
Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. 17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being [c]tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Jesus Christ assumed the nature of man, so He was tempted as a man. Therefore, He is able to understand our difficulty and our frailties (Hebrews 4:15, 16). He is able to understand the afflictions of those who are weak because He was tempted by the same afflictions and in the same environment in which all men live. He was mocked, and persecuted even till death.
Today, many believers shake and doubt God with every threat that comes their way. They forgot that along the road, there are many dangers – trials, temptations, persecutions, mockery, denials, etc. The road can never be smooth, but rough. The song below by a song writer should comfort us:
“Come walk with me, the road is straight and narrow,
Come walk with me, you cannot walk alone,
For the road is rough, and there are many dangers,
Come walk with me, and I will see you through.”
We do not have a God who stands afar off from our sufferings (spiritual and physical). We have a God who identifies with us in order to deliver us from the shackles of a material world.
We can trust God to help us survive suffering and overcome temptation. When we face trials, we should go to Jesus for strength and patience, for He understands our needs and is able to help us.
